Cullercoats Bay North Tyneside

Cullercoats Bay North Tyneside

Cullercoats is a village on the North East coast, situated between Whitley Bay and Tynemouth.
The village was founded in 1539 primarily for fishing and has a population of over 9,000.
It is home to the Dove Marine Laboratory of Newcastle University and has been the home of a lifeboat station since 1848.
Cullercoats is associated with American painter Hinslow Homer who painted the Cullercoats fish lasses who he admired for their hard work and stoicism.
Nearby to the bay is the beautiful 19th century Gothic St Georges Church.
