South Shields Tyne Lifeboat

South Shields Tyne Lifeboat.

The Tyne is the name given to one of the oldest lifeboat in existence in the world. Built in 1833, the boat saved over one thousand lives and served for 60 years.
The first lifeboat in the world was designed by William Wouldhave of South Shields.
After undergoing restoration by the North Eastern Maritime Trust in South Shields, the historic vessel was put back on public display in South Shields in February 2014 .
The successor to this lifeboat is the RNLI Tynemouth lifeboat station based across the river at North Shields.
