Royal Quays Marina North Shields (2)


Royal Quays Marina, North Shields. 

The Royal Quays Marina was developed in the 1980's. Initially the site was the Albert Edward Dock on the Tyne. These photos were all taken in early November 2018 and reflect the variety of vessels which now use the marina.
Included in the photos are the UK Border Force Cutter Alert at the boatyard, the Royal Navy Patrol Ship HMS Archer, the Fisheries Patrol boat St Aidan, the Newcastle University Research Vessel the Princess Royal, and a rescue training vessel from South Shields Marine School.

Belgian Frigate Leopold 1 visiting the Tyne


Belgian Frigate Leopold 1 visiting the Tyne.

Leopold 1 is a Karel Doorman class frigate of the Belgian defence forces.
She was previously the HNLMS Karel Doorman of the Royal Netherlands Navy built in 1985, she was sold to Belgium in 2005.

HMS (F238) Northumberland leaving the Tyne.

These are photos of Royal Navy Type 23 frigate HMS Northumberland leaving the Tyne on 09/07/2018.
HMS Northumberland recently underwent a major refit where she was fitted with the new state of the art Seaceptor missile system, which can be used for air defence and anti-surface operations.
Also included in the pictures are police launches and the Port of Tyne vessels Lynceus and Collingwood which were escorting Northumberland.

North Shields Fisherman's Memorial Fiddlers Green


North Shields Fisherman's Memorial, Fiddlers Green.

These photos were taken when this memorial was unveiled on 24/09/2017 at North Shields, next to the Fish Quay.The Fiddlers Green monument is 10ft 6ins tall was designed by Sculptor Roy Lonsdale and is in honour of all those fishermen who lost their lives at sea when sailing from this port. Fiddlers Green represented a place in 19th century folklore of endless merriment where fishermen went to after they died.
There are 6,000 fishing boats working around the coast of the United Kingdom, and it is the most dangerous peacetime occupation.

Border Force Cutter Seeker on the Tyne


Border Force Cutter Seeker on the Tyne.

The Seeker is part of a class of 5 vessels operated by the UK Border Force. The Border Force also operates a number of Coastal Patrol Vessels.
These ships are 42m in length with a crew of 12, they take part in boarding operations using a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) .
They also work with ships of the Royal Navy.
The official Prefix of these vessels is HMC (Her Majesty's Cutters).

Stad Amsterdam was built in 2000 and represents the class of fast 3 mast vessels known as Clippers which were used for trade by the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the US, Brazil and France and some other nations in 19th century.
