HMS Protector on the Tyne

HMS Protector(A173) is a  Royal Navy ice patrol ship and research vessel , built in Norway in 2001 she was bought by the Ministry of Defence in 2013.
She spends most of her time in the Antarctic on research and patrol duties although she is based at Devonport Naval base, Plymouth .
The ship has capacity for up to 100 crew and scientists and carries a number of small boats and vehicles.
These photos were taken when the ship was going to the A & P Shipyard at Hebburn on the Tyne.
