Dog Leap Stairs Newcastle

Dog Leap Stairs, Newcastle.

Dog leap stairs lead from the castle garth to the side.
They were made famous in the Dire Straits song "down to the waterline" from that bands first album.
Local folklore has it that Baron Eldon - later the Lord Chancellor of England - eloped with Bessie Surtees going up the stairs on horseback.
