The Hartley Pit Disaster Memorial, Earsdon North Tyneside.
In 1862 there was a terrible pit disaster at the Hartley coal mine in what is now Tyne & Wear (then Northumberland). 204 miners were killed, the youngest was only 10 years and the oldest 71. The memorial is contained within the grounds of the St Albans' Anglican Church.
