TS Royalist is a sea cadet training ship which can train 24 cadets for 6 days at a time.

Cruise Ship Marco Polo


Cruise Ship Marco Polo.

Cruise Ship Marco Polo was built in 1965 and is currently under charter to UK based Cruise & Maritime Voyages. She was originally owned by the Soviet Union's Baltic Shipping Company.
The pictures were taken in May 2019 during a visit to the Tyne.

Cruise Ship Costa Mediterranea


Cruise Ship Costa Mediterranea.

The  Costa Mediterranea Cruise Ship weighs 53437 net tonnage and has a crew of 912.
She has a normal passenger capacity of 2114 and was completed in 2003.
These photos were taken on the 21st of May 2019 during a visit to the river Tyne.

Magellan Cruise Ship On the River Tyne


Magellan Cruise Ship On the River Tyne.

The Tyne is a destination for many cruise ships. Magellan visited the river on the 4th of May 2019. Other vessels are needed to guide the large ships into the river safely. Included in the pictures are the Port of Tyne Pilot Cutter Collingwood and the Switzer Tyne Tug. The regular cross-Tyne ferry Pride of the Tyne can also be seen.

Cruise Ship MV Boudicca on the Tyne


Cruise Ship MV Boudicca on the Tyne.

The Boudicca is a Fred Olsen cruise ship and these photographs were taken on 19/02/2019 during a visit to the Northumbrian Quay which is situated next to the Royal Quays Marina, North Shields.
The ship has a capacity for 881 passengers and weighs 28,388 tons.
The ship was the first of 50 cruise ships due to visit the Tyne in 2019.

Royal Quays Marina North Shields (2)


Royal Quays Marina, North Shields. 

The Royal Quays Marina was developed in the 1980's. Initially the site was the Albert Edward Dock on the Tyne. These photos were all taken in early November 2018 and reflect the variety of vessels which now use the marina.
Included in the photos are the UK Border Force Cutter Alert at the boatyard, the Royal Navy Patrol Ship HMS Archer, the Fisheries Patrol boat St Aidan, the Newcastle University Research Vessel the Princess Royal, and a rescue training vessel from South Shields Marine School.

Belgian Frigate Leopold 1 visiting the Tyne.

Leopold 1 is a Karel Doorman class frigate of the Belgian defence forces.
She was previously the HNLMS Karel Doorman of the Royal Netherlands Navy built in 1985, she was sold to Belgium in 2005.

North Shields High and Low Lights



North Shields High and Low Lights.

The North Shields High and Low Lights were built originally in the 16th century by the Guild of the Blessed Trinity to provide a course for ships to align on the lights to navigate a safe passage into the river Tyne, In particular to avoid the dangerous Black Middens.
The lights were built from 1808 and the Low Light is a heritage centre while the High Light is now residential.
Included in the photos are the older High Lights and Trinity buildings in North Shields.
